Whiskey

Whiskey (or whisky) is a distilled spirit made from fermented grain and matured in wooden containers (oak barrels) for a certain period of time. The “e” or lack thereof in the word’s spelling is purely geographical. Certain countries favor one spelling over the other, for example, Scotland and Canada always use “whisky,” while Ireland and the United States tend to favor “whiskey.”

Bourbon – sweet and smooth with varying degrees of caramel and vanilla

Canadian – made with a corn-heavy mash, fruity and spicy

Irish – distinct flavor that can generally be described as light and fruity

Scotch – must contain malted barley, smooth and sometimes smokey
